Field Placement

I am thrilled to be teaching at William Hopkins Jr High school in suburban Fremont, CA. The school has just under one thousand students, 96 percent of whom are non white. 86 percent identify as AAPI, 6.4 percent as Latinx and 4 percent white. There are 28 different languages or major dialects spoken in our families’ homes.

Hopkins is designated by Fremont USD as both the Mandarin and the Spanish immersion Jr High for the district. 91 percent of Hopkins students test at or above grade level in math and 92 percent do so in English. While not a magnet school, Hopkins has a rich tradition of musical excellence, especially in the orchestral department. Approximately 85 percent of my string players take private lessons, about half of my band students do - that number will probably get closer to 70 percent by January. In addition to 180 students spread through 4 ensembles (2 bands and 2 string orchestras) I oversee an after school elementary program of approximately 225 4-6 grade students drawn from our 4 feeder elementary schools.
